Austrian Film Academy
Founded in 2009, the Austrian Film Academy supports Austria’s filmmakers with over 600 members, boosting local cinema and shining a light on Austrian movies. Led by actress Verena Altenberger and director Arash T. Riahi, the Academy ensures every voice in the film world is heard. Each year, they honor top films and talents with the Austrian Film Award, celebrating the richness of Austrian cinema. Through events, workshops, and screenings, they inspire future filmmakers and share the magic of Austrian film culture.

1. THE INVISIBLE BORDER

Austrian Film Award
Since 2011, the Austrian Film Award brings Austria’s best films and filmmakers into the spotlight. This award isn’t about winning money; it’s about celebrating creativity and dedication in the film industry. Artist Valie Export designed the unique trophy as a spiral staircase, showing the journey filmmakers take to create something special.
Every year, Academy members choose winners in categories like Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, and Best Short Film. These films often screen in Austrian cinemas, and sometimes they even reach audiences worldwide, thanks to partnerships with the Academy. This award makes sure people discover Austrian cinema, and it gives filmmakers the recognition they deserve.
